The Sheet Metal Fabricator plans, layouts, fabricates, assembles, installs and repairs sheet metal parts for a variety of aircraft and components.
Responsibilities
Possesses a high level of attention to detail and workmanship to fabricate and assemble components while holding key critical dimensional tolerances
Proficient in set-up and operation of fabricating machines, such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers, to cut, bend, block and form, or straighten materials
Understands how to lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material applying knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace patterns of product/parts
Trims, files, grinds, deburrs, buffs, and smooths surfaces, using hand tools and portable power tools
Reviews, reads and understands military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blue prints, sketches and product specifications to determine sequence, method of fabrication, assembly and installation.
Complies with safety rules and procedures and uses protective equipment as required; remains alert for unsafe conditions
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required
Experience:
0-2 years required; shall have knowledge of simplistic tasks associated with the fabrication and assembly of electronic and mechanical hardware assemblies
3 years’ experience preferred; five years preferred in planning, layout and building to blueprints, or product specifications
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly techniques
