Overview

The Instructor I, GBO monitors air traffic and provides advisory updates to UAS flight crews to maintain safe operation.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes knowledge of Local Area Operations and Procedures training to ensure air traffic is monitored and provides clear communication to avoid other aircraft while maintaining separation minimums
  • Supports the unit’s flight schedule and unit activities to include but not limited to attendance at Flight Briefs when requested
  • Prepares monthly, weekly and daily reports and provides them to the Senior GBO via electronic, written and oral communication
  • Monitors airspace using the Ground Based Sense and Avoid (GBSAA) system and provides recommended heading changes to maintain separation minimums
  • Prepares and maintains logs of GBSAA supported flights
  • Assists with the training development of courseware for the (Ground Based Sense and Avoid System (GBSAA); may conduct student training, administer grades and critiques student examinations
  • Assists the System Maintenance Technicians (SMT) with required repairs
  • Able to clearly enunciate English without impediment of speech that would interfere with 2-way radio communication
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to support day and night flights
  • Must be able to critically think and provide clear and concise instructions to the aircrew
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

      Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • The Army Instructor Training Course-TAITC or FAA equivalent preferred
  • Successful completion of annual proficiency certifications required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 500 hour of pilot in command or one-year ATC experience required; military experience required
  • Security clearance required
  • 5 Years total experience in aviation Platform Training and Courseware Development experience preferred

Any combination of education/experience may be substituted for job requirements at the recommendation of the hiring manager and approval of the COO or higher.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to climb towers up to 150ft using safety equipment, predominately works inside but may work outside to perform repair. Must successfully pass the Class II Flight Physical.  Must be will to travel as required.  Must be able to see with corrective eye wear and hear clearly with assistance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Expected to handle/manage hazardous materials/waste in accordance with regulatory and industrial standards. Wears/maintains personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, hearing, extremities, respiratory devices, protective shields and barriers as required.
